Thank you!

The other day at school
Melissa and I walked into the main building at school to find a place to waste some time before class started.

As I walked through the front doors I saw a Marine standing just inside in his dress uniform. I have always felt that it is our duty to thank the servicemen and women of our wonderful country but have always been too much of a chicken to do so. Ever since Andy joined the Army I have felt even more grateful for their service because I know how difficult it is.

So, noticing that he was by himself I walked up to him and said, "I just wanted to thank you for serving our country. My brother is in the Army so I know that it is really difficult to be away from your family and friends. I just wanted you to know that I appreciate what you do."

In return he said that he appreciated my comment and told me, while looking me directly in the eye, "You're Welcome." I think it was the most sincere "you're welcome" that I have ever gotten. I hope that my simple comment made a difference in his day and maybe made him feel a little more appreciated!

I was watching a program the other night where they showed a husband who is a Sargeant in the Army and then a wife at home with the little kids. And then another family where the Mom had just a baby and the dad has been in Iraq for years now. It made me realize that a lot of these men are missing watching their children grow up too. I can't imagine what that must be like.

We do need to thank them and pray for them as often as we can. It was nice that you did that.

I'm proud of you for mustering up the courage to do that. I've been thanking people in service when I see them too. I know how much it means.

Once you know someone in the military, it certainly makes a difference. I think it's important to thank them for their service, also. I'm sure they appreciate it.

It is hard to muster up the courage. I thanked a mom once in meijers. She had a shirt on that said her son was in the service.
She got tears when I told her to thank her son for his service. I got teary eyed too and that was before Andy was in the service- it's much more real now!

I just want to say that it does mean a lot to most soldiers when people thank us for serving. Thank you for the appreciation.
